In the recent times, the relations between Vietnam and India have been on the upswing with a flurry of high profile visits. Since November 2013, when General Secretary of the Vietnamese Communist Party Nguyen Phu Trong visited India, the initiatives for taking the bilateral relations between both the countries to a new level have been on the rise. Now Modi government has maintained the momentum with Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj visited Vietnam in Aug 2014.

As we look on the trade balance between Vietnam and India, the import-export trade data clearly shows decrease in the level of Vietnam’s trade deficit. It declined from (-) 770,405 USD thousand in 2010 to (-) 378,293 USD thousand in 2012. That means the business between the two countries was going very well. However, the figures of trade deficit started increasing rapidly after 2012, when total value of trade balance touched to (-) 600,248 USD thousand in 2014.
